My hobby - cooking

I am not a good cooker, but I am really interested in cooking. When I was in Taiwan, I always watched cooking programs on TV and did the note then tried cooking by myself. But I don’t have a talent on cooking, sometimes the taste of my foods are just passable. I think the problem is I am lacking in patience, because I don’t like to follow the detail of recipes, I add the ingredient what I want. Sometimes they have unpredictable surprise.
After I came to U.S., I usually cook at home because I need to save money. I enjoyed shopping in supermarkets, I like to spend a long time in a supermarket when the leisure time. I had a housemate who also liked cooking, so we always cook together, and she taught me to cook some foods from her country, and we shared the different culture of foods.

Moon Festival in Taiwan

I am gonna introduce my favorite traditional festival in Taiwan – Moon Festival.
The date of this festival is on 8/15 of the lunar calendar. In this day, every member of a family will get together and enjoy watching the full moon. We eat moon cake in that day, and the most important and popular activity is BBQ!!!!!!! This is the reason why I love Moon Festival. For me, every year when the date is coming, I am so excited to invite my friends to BBQ, and it’s not only just has once, we can have BBQ party many times around those days.
According to Chinese mythology, in the ancient, there had 10 suns in the world. One day, all of suns raised on the sky, and let the earth scorching. An archer named Hou-Yi shot down the nine of them and saved people’s life. Then he got a elixir (a kind of medicine that can make him live forever). But his wife Chang-E drank it. Then she became a celestial. Thus started the legend of the woman in the moon that people would pray on the Moon Festival.

Taiwanese Opera

This is the most representative traditional performance in Taiwan. It originated in the early 20 century, mixed ancient poetry and classical Taiwanese. In the early periods, it was performed for worshipping. The majority contents of performance are about the stories of loyalty, filial, piety and integrity. It was not only a famous leisure time activity in early agriculture community but also a representation of Taiwanese culture. Nowadays, the performance style of Taiwanese opera became more abundant and diversity.
Taiwanese opera not only includes literature, singing, instrument perform and dancing, but also includes art likes make-up and stage setting ,and handicraft like stage properties, costume.

Performance type-
1. Outdoor: This type is performed near streets or in front of temples, and they are free. There has a rule that before start performing, one person has to spread some candies and cookies to the audiences then start the performance. This called “Ban Xian”. And the outdoor Taiwanese opera has a feature that the endings are always good, no sad story.

2. Indoor: This type of performance is engaged in making profit, audiences should pay the tickets. The difference between the outdoor Taiwanese opera is that indoor performance has more tricks like the stage setting has some stunts and effects. And the stories are cliffhanger to engage the audiences.

All about me :)

Hello : ) I am a Taiwanese girl, 24-year-old. Why I am in Boston now? After I graduated, I decided to come to U.S. to study English. But be honest, I just wanted to escape the new life - working. At first, Boston is my first choice, because of the education atmosphere and the lobster!!! I really like seafoods even though I am allergic to its. But actually I went to San Francisco English school first, because the flight to Boston has to transfer in San Francisco, so I decided to stay in the west coast of U.S. for few months. My life in San Francisco was really colorful, I met a lot of friends from different countries, I ate many foods that I hadn't tried before and I visited many places not only in San Francisco but also Los Angels, Las Vegas, Monterey and Carmel. I would like to share my experience in San Francisco to everyone who reads my blog : )
Now, I have been Boston for one month, but the weather is too freezing for me, because in Taiwan, there doesn't has snow. This made me a little bit lazy to visit many places. But recentently the weather becomes warmer,so I am ready to explore this lovely city. I believe I can enjoy the life here as excited as in San Francisco!!!!!

Left my heart in Las Vegas

I have been to Las Vegas twice, I want to share my traveling experience in Las Vegas. From San Francisco, you can take flight or drive car. If by flight, it takes one and half  hours; if by car, it takes almost nine hours. In Vegas there has many different shows, some shows are free. You can walk around the Las Vegas strip, and watch the free show outside some hotels. Like the hotel named Mirage, there has a volcano show, this show uses real fire to show the volcano eruption. When I stood near the show, it was really hot. And I also watched the famous fountain show from Bellagio hotel, that was very beautiful, the fountain combines the different light, it was really amazing.

I also watched a show named KA, this show is very famous and acts by Cirque Du Soleil. In my opinion, when you go to Las Vegas, you should choose lease one show acted by Cirque Du Soleil, it’s really worthful. And there are many hotels where you can have buffet for lunch or dinner. The price is not expensive and has many choice. I recommend the hotel named Wynn, their buffet is very delicious and delicate.

In Vegas, the activity that everyone will do is gambling. when I went to gamble, I played the machine and board game. Unfortunately, I lost… but this was very interested, when I won a little money, I want to play more, I want to win more money, that was the reason why I lost. But this was a really unforgettable experience.

At night, Las Vegas is a big club, many stores open until morning. There includes a lot of night clubs, the decorate are very luxurious. I went to two clubs named TAO and Marque. when I went to the club with my friends in Vegas, I knew a interesting thing that if just only guys want to enter the club without any girls, the security guard will not let them go inside, it’s very strange. But before you go to the club, you can check their website first, maybe you can get the VIP pass or find some discount. And in Las Vegas, you can reserve the limousine to look around the city, experience the night life, and drink some alcohol or do some crazy things, but remember one thing, what happened in Vegas stay in Vegas.
